Intro

Booking a hotel stay in Long Beach, Washington is something straight out of a novel. This quaint, quiet and relaxed community has lots to offer for tourists such as clean stunning beaches, coastal forests, hiking and history opportunities, local restaurants and shops.

If you visit in the summer, you can expect lots of hustle and bustle along Long Beach’s main street. Between car shows and kite flying, there are many activities going on around the peninsula which offer something for everyone. If you visit in the winter during the off season, you can expect a lot more quiet and stillness. Believe it or not, the cloudy and stormy weather during the winter months are my personal favorite time to visit. You will get a true Pacific Northwest feeling when you set out in Long Beach during the winter. You’ll see higher ocean waves smacking against the coastal sand dunes. Or taking a hike in Cape Disappointment through the forests while it is slightly foggy outside.

Nothing beats coming back from a day out of adventures like coming back to a clean and cozy hotel room. And nothing beats a clean and cozy hotel room like staying in a hotel that is dedicated to sustainability and limiting their impact on the planet. As a coastal community, Long Beach seeks to take great care of their beaches and protect the ocean. Like visiting any country, city or town, sustainability plays a part in how we travel. It all boils down to consumer choices. Thankfully there are plenty of sustainable hotel options to choose from when you are planning your trip to Long Beach.

Not only are these some of the best hotels in Long Beach, Washington. These are without a doubt the most sustainable accommodations on the peninsula. You get to enjoy your trip knowing that the local environment is being considered and prioritized while exploring this wonderful Pacific Northwest beach community.

The Best Sustainable Hotels in Long Beach, Washington

You may be wondering what makes these hotels so sustainable and eco-friendly. Well the biggest factor is that all of these hotels are B-Corp certified. Now does a certification fix all environmental issues? No, it doesn’t. But it does give us consumers a way to see which corporations are taking accountability and how they commit to using their profits to benefit the planet, people, and their communities.

Getting a B-Corp certification is a rigorous process and a company has to be able to really demonstrate they are meeting those sustainable goals and proving they are working to be better for the planet. You can read more about B-Corp certification here.

So while this certainly does not solve global issues with climate change, pollution and overgrowing landfills, we can take a small breath of relief knowing there really are businesses out there who want to do right by the planet. With these hotels, they demonstrate that they are not just about profit:

Adrift Hotel

The Adrift truly offers everything that a traveler would need (and then some) to have an amazing stay. It honestly feels like you are staying at a Pacific Northwest version of a resort. This is certainly one of my favorite Long Beach, Washington hotels. I have stayed here many times and will always come running back when I get the chance. I personally love staying here during New Years Eve. If you get a room with a view, you can see the fireworks from the beach! Or you can go to the Pickled Fish and watch fireworks from there as the restaurant has fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean.

About & Amenities

The Adrift is nestled behind the coastal sand dunes and is just a short walk from the beach. This hotel does a wonderful job at combining sustainability with luxury comforts. Many of the designs in the hotel are made from repurposed wood and every aspect of the hotel has the environment in mind. From locally sourced food ingredients to the toiletries, they take the time to prioritize the planet. When you book your stay with the Adrift, you will have access to their famous pool house which has a heated saline swimming pool along with 3 barrel saunas. The property also has a spa, distillery and an amazing restaurant, Pickled Fish, located on the fourth floor of the main building. My favorite perk is the free and complimentary tea and coffee in the lobby; it’s delicious!

Did I mention they are pet friendly? This hotel is also very accommodating to dogs. As someone who has brought my dog during my stay at Adrift, I can personally testify that she adores the Adrift as much as I do. What dog will say no to a king sized bed? You can also check out cruiser bikes to take along on the Discovery Coast Trail. Enjoy a thrilling ride through the sand dunes as you get a breathtaking look of the ocean.

Shelburne Hotel

This hotel is another personal favorite of mine just because of the historic and warm atmosphere. When I step into the Shelburne, I feel like I’ve stepped back in time. I really get to absorb the vintage and charming atmosphere. Plus I do love haunted and spooky things, but don’t let that deter you from booking a stay here. As a sister property, the Shelburne Hotel is still getting the same amount of love and dedication to sustainability as the Adrift.

About & Amenities

Technically located in Seaview, it is just a three minute drive from Long Beach. While it is not directly on the beach, the Shelburne Hotel does have a very quirky and unique atmosphere which is just as fun as the ocean views. This is a very historic building that was originally built in 1896 and is the longest continuously operated hotel in the entire state of Washington. Not to mention that it is also haunted! Well, allegedly haunted. I have personally not seen any ghosts while I have stayed here, but I have heard some incredible and jaw dropping stories about the place. It’s truly a fascinating hotel and a hidden Pacific Northwest gem.

Amenities for this hotel include a pub located on the bottom floor with a fantastic menu of meals that are locally sourced. During your stay, you can relax in the very intimate lounge and warm up by the fire, play a round of billiards or peruse and enjoy the garden to the side of the hotel. There is a spirit who has been said to be very protective of the garden, so do be mindful of the garden space. And the cherry on top?

Because the Shelburne Hotel is a sister property to the Adrift, you can still get Adrift amenities! That means you can still access the heated saline pool, barrel saunas, bicycle rentals and the spa. These two properties are only a short drive from each other so it is still fairly convenient to go between the two. And believe me, it is so worth the short drive to be able to enjoy the heated pool. Especially in the winter time.

Inn at Discovery Coast

I have stayed in the pool house rooms and they are incredibly cozy. From the balcony, you have views of the coastal dunes and the beautifully dense forests. And you of course can hear the ocean. My room was dog friendly which my dog certainly appreciated because she loves traveling as much as I do. This hotel offers peace and tranquility, making it really easy to enjoy the beachy environment around you. Both the Inn at Discovery Coast and the Adrift are without a doubt the top beachfront hotels in Long Beach, Washington.

About & Amenities

If you want to go a step further into the sand dunes, then you should consider booking a stay at the Inn at Discovery Coast. This property offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and is a short walk away from the beach. The Inn at Discovery Coast highlights intimacy and escapism, so if you’re looking for a romantic getaway or an ocean oasis to escape to then this is the perfect hotel for you. And the bottom floor rooms are pet-friendly.

Amenities are all the same as Adrift because they are on the same lot. The Inn at Discovery Coast and Adrift Hotel are actually just a short walk from each other. Which means that staying here will still give you access to the saline heated pool, spa, and barrel saunas all within walking distance to your room. When you stay in the pool house rooms, you won’t have to walk through the parking lot while being wet and cold!

Boardwalk Cottages

This is actually the only property out of the ones I’ve listed that I haven’t personally stayed in. However, this property is owned by the same family who owns the other hotels I’ve mentioned. While I haven’t stayed at Boardwalk Cottages, I know that comfortability and sustainability are continuing to be prioritized just like their other properties. And therefore would absolutely recommend a stay here. I have had both breakfast and lunch at their cafe, The Current, and thought the food was to die for. It was tasty and filling.

About & Amenities

Quaint, cute and cozy are exactly the type of environment Boardwalk Cottages provides. These cottages are only a short drive from the beach. They have a fantastic on site cafe, The Current, which offers amazing breakfasts and lunches as well as an array of coffees, teas and other beverages. Each cottage comes equipped with kitchens and kitchenettes, a jetted tub, a fireplace, wifi, a flat screen TV, a covered patio and even a barrel sauna on the property. This sure beats trying to reserve any kind of vacation rentals nearby. But it gets even better. Because this is an Adrift Hospitality property, that means you can still get the amenities located at the Adrift Hotel even if you are staying at Boardwalk Cottages.
