Packing List for Pinnacles National Park

  • Comfortable pants
  • Comfortable shirt or a long sleeve
  • A light jacket
  • Wool socks (bring an extra pair in case your feet get wet.)
  • Sturdy hiking shoes/ trail runners – I am usually a big fan of my Tevas and I have mentioned them in several of my packing lists. However, given the terrain inside of the talus caves, I really wouldn’t recommend wearing sandals because it’s not a good idea to have your feet exposed around so much loose rock. I still brought them to change into after hiking, but I wore my trailrunners for hiking in this park.
  • Day pack
  • Water bladder – I am a big fan of water bladders because you can hold so much water and they give you easy access to water breaks without having to fumble for your water bottle. Although it’s still good to bring an extra water bottle just in case.
  • Flashlight/ Headlamp– This is an absolute must if you plan on hiking into the talus caves. Even in the daylight, the caves are pitch black and with there being loose rock and running water, it is dangerous to go in there without any light.
  • Kool tye – I always bring a kool tye with me wherever I hike to help keep me cool. Even if I don’t end up using it, I still keep one packed just in case I decide to use it.
  • First aid kit – It’s always good to be prepared. You never know when a cut, scrape or insect bite will happen.
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Chapstick
  • Hat
  • Map – You will get one from the park rangers upon your entrance into the park. You can also use AllTrails for the specific trails that you choose to do and the app will show you where you are if you have a premium subscription

Conclusion

With this packing list, I hope you are more prepared for your visit to Pinnacles National Park.
